In the beginning I had collected a half dozen recipes for making my own casting sand. I had decided I wanted to go with something oil based, then I finally broke down and got a bag of
Petrobond.

This stuff is as fine as flour but when compressed is as hard as a stone. I've pressed a coin into it and it has captured enough detail to read the text on the impression.

Definitely recommending the PetroBond, though I'm eager to find other samples to try and see what's different.
